Abstract

The global halal industry is experiencing rapid growth and holds a strategic position in the world economy, a trend exemplified by the expansion of the halal tourism sector. Halal tourism development goes beyond merely meeting the needs of Muslim travelers; it has become an integral part of the dynamics of the international tourism industry. The Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) has emerged as a key benchmark for evaluating a destination's readiness and competitiveness in catering to the requirements and service needs of Muslim travelers. This study aims to examine the role and evolution of halal tourism in supporting the global halal industry, utilizing the ACES (Access, Communications, Environment, Services) and RIDA (Responsible, Immersive, Digital, Assured) frameworks. A qualitative, descriptive research method was employed, drawing on secondary data from GMTI reports, scholarly publications, and other relevant literature. The findings indicate that halal tourism contributes significantly to the growth of the global halal industry. The ACES framework offers insights into destination readiness regarding accessibility, information and communication, environments that accommodate Muslim travelers' needs, and the availability of services aligned with halal principles. Meanwhile, the RIDA framework broadens this perspective by emphasizing responsible tourism, the creation of meaningful travel experiences, the use of digital technology, and the provision of service assurances for Muslim travelers. The integrated application of both frameworks demonstrates that halal tourism development is not solely about fulfilling religious requirements but also encompasses innovation, sustainability, digital transformation, and service quality enhancement. Consequently, strengthening these aspects can boost the competitiveness of tourism destinations while reinforcing the contribution of halal tourism to the growth of the halal industry on a global scale.
